The British International School Riyadh (BISR) is an extremely well-regarded not-for-profit, co-educational school in the Middle East, catering for students aged 3-18 across its existing five campuses, providing high-quality education to the expatriate community since 1979.

The British International School Riyadh (BISR) is an extremely well-regarded not-for-profit, co-educational school in the Middle East, catering for students aged 3-18 across its existing five campuses, providing high-quality education to the expatriate community since 1979. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and as a British School Overseas (BSO). BISR is also a member of the British Schools of the Middle East (BSME), the Association of British Schools Overseas (AoBSO), the Heads Conference (HMC), and the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). The school follows the English curriculum, greatly enriched by the local and international context. Learning is holistic, supported by a broad co-curricular program, encompassing extra-curricular activities, student leadership, service learning, and residential trips. Strong pastoral care supports student well-being.

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic Head of Physical Education for Senior School to join a team that will be committed to continuing the excellent reputation of the school. You will need to be reflective in your practice, highly motivated, and able to work collaboratively to provide outstanding learning experiences for all children. This role will come with a teaching commitment. We are specifically looking for a teacher and leader who is willing to contribute to our three strategic pillars of learning, enrichment, and well-being.

This position lends itself to applicants who have experience in teaching a wide range of activities in the Secondary section. We have a strong vertical alignment plan in place to enhance the student’s experience, with a department goal to ensure students find an activity or sport they are passionate about and will flourish in to become lifelong participants. All teachers support the curriculum swimming programme and therefore having experience or qualification in this area would be an advantage. We are currently on a journey developing a bespoke through-school concept curriculum from Primary through to Senior school so knowledge and experience in curricular is essential. Examination PE is an area that has grown exponentially, we currently have 2 GCSE PE classes in both year 10 & 11 and we will offer A-Level PE options in 2025/26.

The new sports facilities at Al Waha Campus will include an air dome with a full 11-a-side indoor football pitch with 4 x 7-a-side pitches and running track, an 8-lane swimming pool with Colorado timing system, a learner pool, 3 indoor basketball, volleyball, and netball courts, 12 badminton courts, a hard acrylic outdoor tennis court, a fitness suite, a dance studio, mixed martial arts & functional fitness space and a rooftop 6 a side football pitch.

With an ever-expanding ECA programme the successful candidate will contribute to the continued development and growth of the department. Popular performance sports are Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Swimming, and Athletics, so a passion for one or all of these areas would be welcome. However we are always looking to develop and add to our programmes, candidates with an alternative skillset are also encouraged to apply. Sport is a fundamental part of the experience at BISR and offers the vast amount of exposure that the students get to compete in organised activities in Riyadh; as such, we regularly attend the BSME games, SAIKAC (kingdom-wide athletic conference), and other competitive experiences that meet the needs of the students. With recent successful outings, the expectations are that our teams are well-prepared and competitive in all that we participate in.
