Job Description: Japanese Teacher
The Japanese Teacher at ISA Wuhan International School is responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality Japanese language learning across the campus, supporting students in the IB PYP, MYP, and DP programmes. The role aims to develop students’ language proficiency, intercultural understanding, communication skills, and appreciation of Japanese culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery and Development
- Teach Japanese language and culture across relevant grade levels in PYP, MYP, and DP.
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with IB philosophy, inquiry-based learning, and international education best practices.
- Support students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and language abilities.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment design, and programme development.
- Student Learning and Development
- Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging language-learning environment.
- Encourage student confidence, curiosity, and international-mindedness.
- Use a range of teaching strategies, resources, and digital tools to enhance learning.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to support improvement.
- Collaboration and Community Contribution
- Work collaboratively with PYP, MYP, and DP teams, language departments, and other colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders regarding student progress.
- Support school events, cultural activities, enrichment programmes, and co-curricular opportunities related to Japanese language and culture.
- Actively participate in professional learning communities and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Japanese, Education, Languages, Linguistics, or a related field required.
- Recognized teaching qualification preferred.
- Minimum two years of classroom teaching experience preferred.
- Experience teaching Japanese within IB PYP, MYP, or DP is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of language acquisition and international education.
- Strong communication skills in English; Mandarin Chinese proficiency is an advantage.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural school environment.
- Commitment to IB philosophy, international-mindedness, and student-centered learning.

General Requirements for International Teaching Positions
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area
- A recognized teaching qualification (e.g. BEd, PGCE)
- Minimum two years’ experience of classroom teaching in mainstream education sector
- Previous experience of teaching the IB curriculum is preferred, high potential candidates without IB experience might be considered
- Well-versed in various teaching resources including digital tools to support and enhance teaching and learning
- Sensitivity to the cultural differences
- A willingness to actively participate in the academic enrichment and co-curricular programmes
