The Diploma Programme (DP) Chemistry Teacher plays a vital role in guiding students through the rigorous and intellectually stimulating curriculum of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP). This position requires an enthusiastic educator who is committed to fostering a deep understanding of chemistry and its real-world applications. The teacher will engage students in hands-on laboratory experiments, theoretical learning, and inquiry-based investigations. This role is ideal for a passionate teacher who thrives in an international and collaborative setting, preparing students to become critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and responsible global citizens.

Job purpose:
DP Chemistry Teachers are responsible for planning, teaching, and assessing high-quality lessons within the IB Diploma Programme (DP). They are accountable for maintaining high academic standards and ensuring the effective delivery of the Chemistry curriculum. Collaboration with colleagues within the science department is essential to ensure continuity and progression across the curriculum. Typically, DP Chemistry teachers engage students primarily through hands-on laboratory work, theoretical lessons, and in-depth discussions of chemical concepts, fostering critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills. As the main point of contact for student progress, DP Chemistry Teachers build strong relationships with both students and parents, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the academic year.

General Requirements for International Teaching Positions

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area
  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g. BEd, PGCE)
  • Minimum two years’ experience of classroom teaching in mainstream education sector
  • Previous experience of teaching the IB curriculum is preferred, high potential candidates without IB experience might be considered
  • Well-versed in various teaching resources including digital tools to support and enhance teaching and learning
  • Sensitivity to the cultural differences
  • A willingness to actively participate in the academic enrichment and co-curricular programmes
