We are seeking to appoint dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated PE teachers to join us for the 2019/2020 academic year, who will deliver PE across the whole school from Foundation 1 to Year 13. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a dedicated, hardworking and forward thinking team.

The British International School, Riyadh caters for students aged 3-18.  50% of students are British but over 50 other nationalities are represented within the student body.  The school is accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the Council of International Schools (CIS).  The most recent British School overseas inspection described the BIS curriculum as “outstanding” and states that “students demonstrate outstanding attitudes, behaviour and personal development.  They take pleasure in their own success and that of others”.  In a recent confidential survey staff overwhelmingly stated that they enjoy working at the school.  We now seek to add to our team.

We are currently seeking to appoint dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational teachers to join us for the 2019/2020 academic year. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a dedicated, hardworking and forward thinking team that is motivated to enhance the students’ experiences both in and out of the learning environment. With a varied PE curriculum and an extensive and expanding ECA programme the candidates will be encouraged to contribute to the continued development and growth of the department as we seek to become a beacon of excellence in our field. One of the positions lends itself to a teacher who has a passion for girls PE and Sport, with the opportunity to grow and establish this area and enable our students to reach their full potential. 

The successful candidates must be prepared to work across the range of key stages as well as activities. All teachers support the swimming programme and therefore having experience or qualification in this area would be an advantage. As part of the facilities, the school has a 25m swimming pool, 6 lane 200m running track, 8 a side AstroTurf, sports hall that accommodates two full sized netball/basketball courts and 8 badminton courts, Climbing wall, fitness suite and three smaller spaces that incorporate a dance studio, gymnastics hall and a specialist foundation room for PE activities.

Sports is a fundamental part of the experience at BISR and offers the vast amount of exposure that the students get to compete in organised activities in Riyadh; as such, we regularly attend the BSME games and Mediterranean cup. With recent successful outings the expectations are, our teams are well prepared and competitive in all trips that we undertake. BISR have also competed in the COBIS games and plan to expand our competitive calendar as we continue to develop our sporting teams. Local competitions in Saudi Arabia and Riyadh are also expanding and the school supports and encourages the department to be part of all opportunities that are presented to our students.

The successful candidates will:

  • be UK qualified teachers or have qualifications recognised  in the UK through the NARIC process;
  • very competently fulfil all Teachers’ Standards as published by the Department of Education in 2012;
  • put students at the heart of the education process;
  • fully support the Mission and ethos of the school;
  • commit enthusiastically to the school’s enrichment programme including leading extra-curricular and inter-house activities;
  • believe in the values of international and interculturalism in an educational context;
  • have an excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • be a dynamic forward-looking professional with the experience and skills to contribute to a dynamic faculty;
  • good knowledge of the curriculum and experience of inquiry based teaching
  • ability to communicate with pupils, colleagues and parents, and to build strong relationships with all members of the school community
  • ability to work collaboratively
  • know how to challenge and differentiate for children of varying abilities  
  • ideal candidates will have a specialism in one of the following dance, swimming , trampoline and/or be competent in games activities.

There may also be a Position of Responsibility for the right candidate.

Teachers who work at BISR should have


  • Qualified Teacher status;
  • Certificate of Education, First degree or equivalent;
  • Training or qualification relevant to the post.
