The International School of the Hague is looking for an experienced, dynamic and inspiring Vice Principal Academic for our Secondary school who will continue our drive for the highest quality of student learning.

The International School of The Hague is a highly successful, innovative and energetic semi-public school located in a state-of-the-art building in an area of natural beauty on the edge of the city of The Hague, near Kijkduin.

The entire school currently has 1900 students, of which 650 in Primary, and hosts over 99 nationalities with teachers from around the world. The school is divided into Primary and Secondary with a Principal for each section. The Principals and Vice Principals supported by the Business manager, comprise the Senior Leadership of the School.

The Secondary school is an accredited IB school offering the Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme and Careers Programme. We are also an accredited CIS school and we are currently undergoing preparations for our CIS reaccreditation, which will include our primary school as well evaluation of our IB programmes. The Vice Principal Academic for Secondary will play a significant role in making this a success

And will have:

  • A qualification to teach Secondary Education and preferably a masters degree
  • A successful track record in academic leadership, including at least three years of leadership experience in international schools
  • Experience of the International Baccalaureate 
  • IB Curriculum evaluation and CIS accreditation experience is desirable
  • Experience of leading change with evidence of impact
  • A passion for and deep understanding of internationalism and international education
  • Excellent fluency in English (verbal and written)
  • Readiness to learn Dutch and function within a Dutch context
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning

Responsibilities and Core tasks

  • Be a member of the Secondary Leadership Team (SecLT)
  • Be a member of the Whole School Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Work closely with the Participation Council (MR)
  • Drive the mission and vision of the school throughout the academic section
  • Lead the process of goal setting, observations and performance for all academic staff in the Secondary School
  • Work in close liaison with the Principal on appraisal within the Secondary
  • Work in close liaison with the Principal with regard to the planning and preparation for the budget, with particular reference to the academic staffing requests
  • Be involved in any recruitment for the Secondary School
  • Recruitment and monitoring of cover teachers
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of any policies as part of the SecLT
  • Organise and prepare professional learning opportunities for all staff
  • Lead professional learning meetings and workshops
  • Ensure regular and clear communication to all stakeholders
  • Report to the Principal and deputise during the Principal’s absence
  • Assist in the marketing and PR of ISH as a whole school
  • Liaise with administration, admission teams
  • Be available to parents
  • Lead tours for prospective parents
  • Liaise with the Primary school on transition
  • Line manage key members of the academic section, including the Deputy Heads Academic for the MYP, DP and CP
  • Co-ordination of internal staff calendar

All positions are based on the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) for Secondary Education. Salary depends on the relevant background and experience. In accordance with the CAO, the successful candidate will be offered an initial one year contract. A permanent contract will be offered for the second year provided that the teaching qualifications are recognised by the Dutch Education Authorities and that performance has been in line with expectations.

Qualifications

Please know that in order to work for us, you must be a fully qualified teacher in accordance with the standards required by the Dutch Education Authorities (DUO). Successful candidates require: 

  • For all applicants to ISH Primary, a Bachelors Degree will suffice to be considered. However, all ISH Secondary applicants will need a Bachelor plus a Masters Level qualification in Education. 
  • For applicants from the UK, you will have completed the PGCE and been awarded QTS plus successful completion of the NQT induction year.
  • For all applicants to ISH Secondary, your qualifications at either Bachelor or Masters level must also clearly indicate the subject that you are applying to teach in, in order to be recognised by DUO.
